If you’re a lover of Indian or Vegetarian Cuisine – this is your must-visit destination.
Indian Food – Vegetarian Food – Amazing Presentation
Shane Punjab is located on the northern part of Diani, right next to Diani Beach Hospital, this culinary gem might not boast the most picturesque environment, but the flavours within are worth it!
Upon arrival, you’ll notice the bustling atmosphere, with trucks and small cars being loaded with supplies from the nearby alcohol distributor. To fully immerse yourself in the dining experience, I recommend visiting in the evening when the unnecessary noise and commotion subside. As for the restaurant’s decor, you’ll find empty bottles adorning the exterior, lending a unique touch that sparks curiosity.
Steeping inside Shane Punjab you’ll discover a basic interior lacking Indian decorations or the enchanting melodies of Indian music. While this may initially disappoint, take solace in the fact that the place is immaculately clean, including the well-maintained toilets—a comforting reassurance in any dining establishment.
Now, let’s delve into the true star of the show: the food. At Shane Punjab, they place a great emphasis on catering to vegetarian diners, evident from the moment you open the menu. The first three pages are dedicated to an array of delectable vegetarian options. From the earthy delight of Mutter Mushroom Masala to the creamy indulgence of Palak Paneer or even the aromatic vegetarian Biryani and Mutton Pulao, the choices are abundant. Rest assured, and vegetarians will find their paradise here.
During our visit, we decided to embrace the full Indian culinary experience. We began with a plate of 12 perfectly grilled, spicy tandoori Chicken wings—an ideal appetizer to awaken the taste buds. For our meat variation, we savored the chili prawns, accompanied by two vegetarian main courses: the velvety Malai Kofta, featuring mixed vegetable spheres in a luscious cashew nut sauce and fresh cream gravy, and the delightful Paneer Bhurji, which combines minced cottage cheese with a light onion and tomato gravy. To complete our feast, we relished the soft, buttery Naan bread, a fitting accompaniment to the flavorful dishes.
What sets Shane Punjab apart is not just the exceptional flavors but also the unique presentation. The food arrives in hot clay pots, perfect for sharing among large groups, creating a warm and communal dining experience.
Thirsty? Fear not, at Shane Punjab you’ll find a beverage selection that caters to all tastes. Whether you desire a refreshing soda or crave an alcoholic libation, the restaurant’s affiliation with the largest beverage distributor in Diani ensures you won’t be left thirsty.
Though not outstanding, the service team was attentive and amiable, ensuring our enjoyable dining experience.
Now, let’s address the topic of price. While Shane Punjab may not be the most budget-friendly option, it doesn’t break the bank either. The most expensive dish on the menu, the chilli prawns, cost 1100 Kenyan shillings, while other options ranged from 700 to 800 Kenyan shillings per pot. Bear in mind that the bill can add up if you indulge in additional Naan bread or decide to savor multiple dishes simultaneously. We ended up spending 4500 Kenyan shillings for three main courses, a plate of wings, 2 Naan bread, and two beers—a reasonable price for the quality and quantity of food provided.
In conclusion, Shane Punjab Indian Restaurant stands as a unique culinary haven in Diani, with no other Indian restaurants nearby. Its dedication to vegetarian options sets it apart, making it an ideal destination for those seeking meatless delights. The communal dining experience, with food served in clay pots, adds a touch of novelty, perfect for larger groups and families. While the surrounding environment may not be the most picturesque, the authentic and flavorful Indian cuisine at Shane Punjab makes it a spot worth visiting – among all Kwale County Restaurants.
So, embark on a flavorful journey, overlook the external ambience, and let the taste of India transport you to culinary bliss at Shane Punjab Indian Restaurant.
