The re-designed Beachbar and Restaurant is a pearl in Diani Beach
Beachfront Bar – Good Food – Amazing Beach Vibes – Very quiet
Located on the south side of Diani Beach, nestled between the Almanara Hotel and Salty Squid Restaurant, Blue Marlin Restaurant stands out with its iconic wooden Marlin fish logo adorning a large signboard. As a veteran establishment since 2008, Blue Marlin offers a multifunctional experience, including a Kite station, boutique hotel, and, of course, a delightful beachfront restaurant.
Stepping into Blue Marlin, the intricate woodwork immediately captivates your attention, giving the restaurant an elegant and distinguished ambience. The entire establishment exudes an air of meticulous maintenance, with tidy and clean seating arrangements. From spacious tables accommodating large groups to cosy sofas perfect for a relaxed beach day, Blue Marlin caters to various preferences. Moreover, the well-maintained restrooms further exemplify the restaurant’s commitment to ensuring a pleasant dining experience. The only aspect that could enhance the atmosphere would be some background music to enrich the ambiance further.
True to its name, Blue Marlin specializes in seafood cuisine, offering a diverse menu that tantalizes the taste buds. While they also provide everyday options like pizza, pasta, and burgers, the creative incorporation of seafood sets them apart. Unique dishes such as the Smoked Fish Pizza or the Fish Burger add an innovative twist to familiar favorites. Additionally, their menu boasts an array of salads, burritos, and pasta dishes, all featuring delightful seafood options. During our visit, the food we ordered was delectable and arrived promptly, ensuring a satisfying dining experience.
Blue Marlin presents an extensive selection of beverages to complement its culinary offerings. From coffees, espressos, and teas to sodas, local beers, and international spirits, the restaurant leaves no stone unturned. Wine enthusiasts can indulge in a choice of red and white wines, available by the glass or bottle. Noteworthy options include the Rutini Collection on the red wine section and the Trumpeter Reserve Wine for white wine lovers. Moreover, a tempting variety of cocktails is also on offer, making Blue Marlin a destination for refreshing libations.
The service team at Blue Marlin deserves accolades for their exceptional hospitality. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and promptly attended to by the friendly staff. The waitress, in particular, displayed attentiveness and promptly responded to our needs, ensuring that our dining experience was seamless and enjoyable.
However, it is important to note that Blue Marlin falls on the higher end of the price spectrum. As we perused the menu, we realized that it is one of the more expensive dining establishments in the area. Simple dishes like the Pizza Margherita were priced at 800 Kenyan shillings, while a half-roasted chicken with vegetables cost 1400 Kenyan shillings. Our surprise continued when we ordered two fresh pineapple juices, which amounted to 500 shillings each. Thus, it is advisable to budget around 3000 Kenyan shillings per person when dining here.
In conclusion, Blue Marlin is a legendary establishment that has stood the test of time, impressively marking its presence in Diani for 15 years. Its enduring success can be attributed to its consistency and continuous innovation. Whether you are looking for a splendid beachside experience with a group of friends or a peaceful spot to work on your laptop, Blue Marlin offers a hidden gem worth exploring. While the prices may be steep, the location and the overall experience justify the expenditure. So, if your budget allows, don’t miss the opportunity to indulge in the delights of Blue Marlin Restaurant.
